The Tides of Shadow
Spined Devils serve as scouts and sentries in the Nine Hells. They gather in raucous, marauding bands, winging through the burning skies and viciously harrying any prey they come across. Some serve as spies and messengers to powerful devils.
Kallista says (through hours of library research): “Spinagons, though lowly, are in a position to gain status quickly. Because they often gather armies for greater baatezu, they can increase their status by performing the task quickly. Often, this leads to less influential baatezu getting their armies formed last, and the more important baatezu getting their armies immediately. Because of this, spinagons can advance quickly, but they are subject to abuse and even destruction by middle level baatezu disappointed with their performance. The Nine Hells is a strange place, ruled by a perverse discipline that simultaneously encourages both structured behavior and treachery.”
“Although I had little experience tracking and fighting this “Spineshank”. Listening to the rest of the party…It seemed to be the flunkie of this mysterious Dorian. Which makes me wonder…why would a devil (even a low ranking one) serve a human? Something definitely isn’t right…The truth will reveal istelf soon enough I am sure.”
